Vanessa's Staff Profile
Vanessa was inspired to join the Silo team because of her love for the outdoors!
“I came across Silo on Indeed and it seemed like a fun new adventure where I could learn something and get to work outside,” she said.
Vanessa is one of our incredible team of field technicians who install Internet for residents living in rural communities.
After working at Silo for a few months Vanessa left on good terms to pursue an educational opportunity and shortly after returned.
“I really enjoyed working with the people at Silo and for the company itself. I like being a part of the big Silo family,” she said.
Vanessa has a dream of one day owning a little store that sells fair-trade goods, like the Circle Game in Port Dover.
“Next summer when I’m off on weekends I plan to sell fair-trade items like clothing and accessories at festivals.”
It’s important to Vanessa that the products she buys are made sustainably by people making fair wages and she wants to make these items more accessible to the community. She even has a name for her business – “The Lotus Turtle.”
Another goal of Vanessa’s is to one day live in a yurt off the gird. A yurt is essentially a large circular tent, traditionally made of felt or skins.
She imagines one large yurt as her main living space, and smaller yurts surrounding, one a bedroom for her daughter, Summer, one an art studio and one for her bedroom.
“It will be solar powered with a geothermal heating system, grey water system, with plumbing funneled into a constructed wetland, and a greenhouse to grow things year-round,” she explained.
She thinks she might build this dream home in Norfolk County, where she lives now.
Outside of work, Vanessa enjoys painting, making jewelry, jogging, yoga, outdoor activities like hiking, fishing, hunting, canoeing and camping. While she’s outside she particularly enjoys looking for reptiles and amphibians, and of course she shares these activities with her daughter and her puppy, Oden.
