This year Silo did something a little different on social media to get people excited about our annual holiday food drive.
On Tuesday, December 3rd or “Giving Tuesday” Silo pledged to give an extra $2 for each time our “Giving Tuesday” social media post was retweeted, shared and reposted. As a result, Silo donated an extra $104 worth of food on top of the more than $900 allotted to the initiative.
Like last year, Silo challenged staff and customers to give to the food drive for their chance to win!
For every three items donated customers were entered into a draw to win a month of free Internet. Over the four weeks of the food drive Silo drew 4 names. This year’s winners were Barb D, Debbie H, Sylvia B and Ted W. Congratulations to our lucky winners and thanks to all our customers who participated!
Staff had a challenge of their own! Split into 4 teams Silo’s employees competed to see who could donate the most food.
Silo gave each staff member $30 to get them started for a total of $900.
This year’s winner was Team 2. Team members Joel, Kate, Emily, Trevor, Chelsea, Adam, Anthony and Dave worked together to donate a total of 519 pounds of food.
Kate went the extra mile, handing out flyers in her neighbourhood, encouraging her community to leave food donations on their porches so she could collect it and add it to her team’s food drive donations.
Other staff received cash donations from family and friends which they converted into more food to be donated.
In total, Silo staff and customers gave over 1500 pounds of food this year to the Brantford Food Bank!
Thanks very much to everyone who participated. Together we helped feed the hungry this holiday season!
