Install Technician

Position Description:

We are currently looking for an enthusiastic, self- motivated individual with a desire to be challenged to join the team!

Reporting to our Operations Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for the installation of wireless units as well as voip telephone and TV units, service calls/trouble shooting, customer testing and customer service.  This person will also work very closely with our tech support and administration departments.

PLEASE NOTE – this is not a piece work position and all required training and certificates will be arranged and provided for by Silo.


  • Must possess the skills required to operate: hand tools, power tools, ladder, safety harness as well as other safety equipment, computers etc
  • Must be willing to work outdoors year round and keep up to a physically demanding job
  • Cannot be afraid of heights – must climb roofs and TV towers
  • Experience working at heights is an asset
  • Must have good problem solving skills
  • Must work well with little supervision but also thrive in a team environment
  • Must be willing and able to continually learn new technologies/computer platforms
  • Computer networking knowledge is an asset
  • Must be reliable
  • Must possess a valid Ontario class G license with a clean record
  • Must be bondable
  • Must be able to work flexible hours (overtime) as needed

Junior Network Field Technician

Position Description:

Silo is a leading provider of high speed Internet in Brant County and surrounding counties. Through constant investment in the latest technologies we continue to provide leading edge solutions to the communities we serve.

We are currently looking for a Junior Network Field Technician to join our team. The technician will be responsible for performing on-site installations and repairs at our broadcast locations, working independently or as part of a team when required. The technician will be required to interface with site landlords and or maintenance/safety personnel when on-site. Tasks performed will include documenting, auditing, installing, updating, repairing and maintaining equipment in cabinets located on the ground, rooftops and other locations. Significant attention will be focused on documenting and standardizing our current network installations to meet the ever-growing demand for reliable and uninterrupted services. The ideal candidate will have a background in construction-like trades, computer networking or similar field, be willing and able to perform physical labour in all weather conditions, work efficiently and independently. The willingness and ability to work at heights and climb communications towers is required. Training in rescue, working at heights and first aid are required but will be provided if not already valid.

Duties include but not limited to:

• Install wireless networking equipment on building rooftops, at tower site cabinets and on communications towers.
• Install communications wiring
• Troubleshoot and repair wireless network installations
• Drive company vehicles
• Climb ladders
• Carry installation materials such as concrete blocks and aluminum masts to installation sites
• Write up detailed reports outlining tower/cabinet/building/installation details
• Must be available for on-call rapid response repair work evenings and/or weekends


• Proper professional etiquette including the ability to speak and write clearly, accurately and professionally
• Knowledge of customer service principles and practices
• Demonstrated proficiency in typing and grammar
• Experience with construction techniques preferred
• Basic computer skills, networking skills preferred but will train the right candidate if required

Relevant Experience:

• Previous experience in a related field such as: Two-way radio communications, WISP/WiFi installation work or equivalent, electrical work, building wiring, fire alarm service and installation, telecommunications technician, cellular DAS systems or building security and automation. NOTE: Above industry experience is not required but will be considered an asset

Physical Job Requirements:

• Ability to lift 50lbs plus
• Ability to climb ladders and conduct construction site safety
• Must have a valid G driver’s license and clean driving abstract
